How the M1 chip has revolutionized the Mac lineup

For generations, I've expressed surprise at Apple's tailor-made silicon's sheer power and immaculate efficiency, those A-class chips which seemed to have practically unlimited headroom. Apple appeared to understand mobile processors in a way that its competitors, especially Qualcomm and, consequently, Intel, did not.

It wasn't only the benchmarks that continued to beat the best Qualcomm has to give, right through the latest iPhone 12 and A14 Bionic. It is indeed how much these devices performed and what I can do with mobile and smartphone technology. 4K video editing on a device the size of my hand might have been considered science fiction a generation ago, but right now it’s standard.

Apple's proposal to develop its own custom silicon and eventually replace it in all of its Macs was met with surprise, but not alarm. We know Apple has the required power and that ARM-based CPUs can deliver major battery life improvements.

Though Apple isn't the first to do so (Microsoft and Qualcomm collaborated on the ARM-based SQ2 chip for the Surface Pro X), the company's much more comprehensive announcement is sure to cause more substantial and long-lasting cracks in the device consistency

Although we only got one Apple Silicon SoC, the M1, the company jumped right into its own custom silicon range, putting the 5-nanometer processor in three of their popular Macs: the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro 13 inch, and Mac Mini. While some may argue that the Mac mini is still an unique model the MacBook Air is without a doubt one of Apple's most popular and well-liked machines. Students and workers who get to choose their own laptops have been raving about it for years.Apple also announced the new 24-inch iMac with the m1 chip, which came in seven vibrant colours, transforming the office-niche iMacs to the home-friendly environments.

It's not just that Apple is moving away from Intel in the system market, or that it's attempting to unify its systems without actually merging iOS and macOS (hello, Universal apps). M1, a guaranteed processor (except for apps that would have to use Rosetta to run on it), is just as capable with Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro as it is with your beloved iOS games, thanks to the support of macOS Big Sur.

The M1 has shocked everyone’s expectations by delivering superb and dynamic graphics, thanks to the 8-core graphics in the M1 SoC.And the fact that the laptops are completely silent and fanless in the case of Macbook air just proves Apple’s efficient understanding of customer needs.I'm also relieved that Apple didn't lift the M1 systems' prices, and in fact, they lowered the price of Mac mini.

However, battery life is a feature that should not be looked upon. We bring our iPhones around with the hope that they can last all day, at least with a fully charged battery. Even with the most powerful Intel desktop CPU, laptops and desktops will last a workday, but not much longer. It's easy to get addicted to 17 hours of work, wireless web surfing, a potentially processor-intensive job.

In short, the thanks to the M1 chips the macbook lineup has drastically changed in terms of quality, efficiency and power. There are numerous fixes and bugs in the M1, although we did not expect everything to be perfect.we do hope that Apple will fix these bugs in the M1X chip.

Hoping you found use in this article.
